According to Burton W. Nesbitt, volunteer Lorain County coordinator for the National Graves Registration Project of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, he served as a private in Co. B of the 27th U.S. Colored Infantry, enlisted on 1/1/1864, and was discharged on 9/21/1865 ("mustered out with company").
