Biographical Information

According to Burton W. Nesbitt, volunteer Lorain County coordinator for the National Graves Registration Project of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, he served as a private in Co. C of the 23rd Ohio Infantry, enlisted 4/25/1861, "died of disease at Gauley Bridge, Va. (and was) buried at Grafton, WV." His name does not appear in the family's listing in the 1850 census. For information on the Morgans' significant contributions to Oberlin, see Robert Samuel Fletcher, A History of Oberlin College from Its Foundation through the Civil War (2 vols.; Oberlin, Ohio: Oberlin College, 1943).
