[Military marker] A former slave who came to Oberlin via the Underground Railroad and a participant in the Oberlin-Wellington Rescue. See pp. 26-27 of Westwood: A Historical and Interpretive View of Oberlin's Cemetery, Oberlin, Ohio (Oberlin: Oberlin Historical and Improvement Organization, 1997) for more biographical details.
