Biographical Information

Burton W. Nesbitt, volunteer Lorain County coordinator for the National Graves Registration Project of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, has no detailed information on him, but the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System database, <http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.htm> lists him as having served in Co. E and Co. C of the Engineer Regiment of the West, Missouri Volunteers, entering as a sergeant and leaving as a lieutenant. According to an unsourced newspaper clipping, "List of Soldiers Buried in Westwood Cemetery," on the Oberlin Public Library Westwood microfilm reel, "Lieut. Wm. Connet, Engineer Corps. Died from desease contracted while acting as scout and spy." He is listed on Oberlin's Soldiers' Monument as "Capt. William H. Connet."
