Comments

"First Oberlin fireman to lose his life in the line of duty" (quotation from Pictorial Memories of Oberlin, p. 27). According to Dr. L. C. Meredith's 1991 videotape Westwood R.I.P., Jackson was killed during a fire that leveled the cemetery's maintenance building, when the chimney exploded and a chimney stone fell on his head. See the memorial stone in Wright Park, on the southwest corner of Main and Vine Streets, Oberlin.
