Biographical Information

According to Burton W. Nesbitt, volunteer Lorain County coordinator for the National Graves Registration Project of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, "Frank Griffeth" served as a private in Co. I of the 5th U.S. Colored Infantry, enlisted on 10/17/1863, and was discharged on 9/20/1865. Note that the surname is "Griffen" in the original Westwood log book and that neither "Frank Griffeth" nor "Frank Griffen" appears in the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System database, <http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.htm>, although that database does include a "Frank Griffith" in Co. I of the 5th USCI. Note too that the Westwood printout lists a Frank Griffin as having been buried on 2/13/1872 in Lot 1, Grave 37 of Potters' Field.
