Biographical Information

According to Burton W. Nesbitt, volunteer Lorain County coordinator for the National Graves Registration Project of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, he served as a "Field and Staff" musician in the 180th Ohio Infantry, enlisted on 9/1/1864, "was Pvt. Co. B. Promo to principal musician 20 Oct. 1864" and was discharged on 6/12/1865. Note that the surname is "Phillips" in the original Westwood Lot book and the Westwood printout and "Thomas D. Philips" in the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System database, <http://www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.htm>.
